The Center for Educational Partnerships at UC Irvine is a strong partner with local community colleges with a goal of increasing the community college transfer rates to four-year institutions through academic preparation strategies that include individual and group academic advising, summer residential institutes, and financial aid resources.
Summer Scholars Transfer Institute (SSTI)
During this intensive 10-day residential summer institute at UCI, 120 students from Santa Ana College and Rio Hondo College complete a core academic transfer course for three units of academic UC transferable credit. Instructional teams composed of UCI and Community College faculty, counselor, and two teaching assistants are the nucleus of the program. Now in its 23rd year, the SSTI program has demonstrated overwhelming success.
The Early ID program’s goal is to improve the transfer preparation, access, and transfer success of community college bound high school students. The Early ID program works with our EAOP partner schools to find high school students planning to transfer from community college to a four-year institution.
Early ID also works with local community college partners that have significant potential for additional transfers, in particular those from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. The specific target of this program is to identify low-income and underserved students to assist them in utilizing the community college transfer pathway effectively and expediently.
The UC-Edison Transfer Scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in one of the 40 community colleges located within the Southern California Edison service area and are on track to transfer to a UC campus. Recipients must have declared a major in science, engineering, or mathematics in order to become eligible for the award.
The scholarship is $7,500 per year and is renewable for a two-year period. Students must participate in 25 hours of community service per year, maintain a 2.0 G.P.A, and attend weekly Edison Scholars workshops and events.
