	Why is it important to learn how to read and analyze data in Venn diagrams? They are the beginning of logic. It is important to develop a logical way of sorting, interpreting and classifying all sorts of data. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standard number 3 (mathematics as reasoning) includes the following for grades K-4: Students can-- draw logical conclusions about mathematics; use models, known facts, properties, and relationships to explain their thinking; Venn diagrams fit all of the above standards. Mathematics is reasoning; one cannot do mathematics without it. All people, no matter what age, encounter problems that require rational thinking skills to solve. Students need to learn an orderly manner of sorting, comparing and analyzing data. This unit is intended for use with second grade students with limited English proficiency. This unit is intended to be a step-by-step process of teaching logical thinking.
