Gender Differences in Children's Toys - Kathleen Antrim, Valley High School |
|
|
This unit focuses on gender biases in children's toys. It is designed for students with learning disabilities at the high school level. I believe this unit would be successful in other content areas as well and can easily be used as supplemental material in any class. This unit will give students the opportunity to gain more personal understanding and appreciation of both genders. They will be able to explore several avenues in which gender differences in toys are apparent. The material in this unit will give students the opportunity to find ways to change the current trends in toy marketing and advertising. The "hands on" activities in this unit, which is recommended as a supplemental unit in Language Arts, are to be educational as well as enjoyable. The students will work individually, with partners, in groups and as a whole researching and developing their assignments and projects. |
