The Upward Bound program at UC Irvine is a pre-college program dedicated to helping students succeed in high school and to achieve a post secondary education. Our goal is to ensure that all program participants will graduate from high school and continue at an institution of higher education to successfully obtain a four-year college degree.

Currently, the Upward Bound program at UC Irvine services 50 students from three high schools in the Anaheim Union School District: Anaheim High School, Katella High School, and Loara High School.

Upward Bound is a completely student centered program, because we commit 100% of our effort and resources to making sure that our participants stay the most informed with all college admissions requirements and procedures, and receive the best preparation for achieving their educational goals.

Working with the administration, staff, and faculty at the local sites, Upward Bound seeks to further supplement the efforts of the school site to ensure the academic success of its program participants through specific program services.

I realized that I am capable of doing a lot of work if I scheduled my day appropriately. Had the program not challenged us, I would never have reached my full potential..."

"Upward Bound to me is very special, because not only did it help me get to college, but also to prepare me for college when I got there.  While participating in the Saturday Sessions and Workshops, my Upward Bound friends and I all learned many tips in how to survive in college.  I always like telling my high school friends that getting yourself to college is one thing, but actually being in college is something else altogether..."

"Upward Bound is a program that truly had a positive influence in my educational career. It was great to be a part of a group made up of students from different high schools, but with similar disadvantaged backgrounds. We all strived for a common purpose, however, and that was to obtain tools necessary for academic success throughout high school, gain acceptance into a four-year university, and continue with the skills we learned in order to be successful in a a university setting..."
