The Student Perspective

Upward Bound is a program dedicated to helping students succeed in high school and to prepare them for a four-year college education. The program offers many helpful assistance such as after school tutoring, monthly college preparation workshops, and the highly anticipated summer residential program a university to experience college life.

Participating in the Upward Bound summer program was the best thing that happened to me, because I learned so much about myself and my personal study habits. Over the summer, I experienced living in the dorms, having a roommate, attending classes at a university, and eating the dorm food. The summer program taught me how to study more effectively by using different learning strategies other than what I was used to. The summer program has also taught me that being organized and prioritizing my time is the key to doing well in school. By using the techniques I learned over the summer I know that I can get better grades in school this year.

Before joining UB I used to worry about how I am going to get to college and how I would be able to handle the college workload once I got there. Now that I have gone through it, even though it was only for a month, I feel better prepare and I am ready to face the challenges ahead.
