Prospective Students
Upward Bound is now recruiting new students for the 2008-2009 academic year. All interested students must be able to attend the 2008 Summer Residential Program, July 14 - August 16.
  1. Make sure that you are eligible to apply.
  2. Print out the program application form.
  3. Completely fill out the application form and submit it to one of the UB tutors located at your high school. Click here for tutoring schedules and location.
    • Note: Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  4. Application period will remain open until program is full.
  5. Once we have received your application you will receive a confirmation letter from Upward Bound.
UCI's Upward Bound is proud to service the students of Anaheim and help them attain their goals of getting to college. Recruitment for Upward Bound occurs once a year during the spring. All interested students must complete and turn in an application during the recruitement window, as well as go through a personal interview to determine the potential for benefit from the services offered through the program. A complete application includes:
  1. Application
  2. A copy of your parent's/guardian's most recent 1040 income tax return
  3. A copy of your most recent transcript (Non-official acceptable)
  4. Autobiography
  5. Semester Schedule Form (provided in the application)
  6. Recommendation Form (provided in the application)
Upward Bound Eligibility Requirement
Eligibility Requirements
  1. Student must be a current 9th, 10th, or 11th grader who is attending either Anaheim, Katella, or Loara High School in the Anaheim Union School District.
  2. Student must be a U.S. citizen or a Permanent Resident.
  3. Student must be in good academic standing and be recommended by a teacher or counselor. (Minimum 2.500 GPA)
  4. Student must be planning to attend college after graduating form high school.
Additional Requirements Prospective students must also meet at least one of the following requirements:
Family Income Eligibilty To be financially eligible, prospective students must meet the federal family income guideline established by the U.S. Department of Education (federal family income guideline are subject to change).

For family units with more than 8 members, add the following amount for each additional family member: $4,770 for the 48 contiguous states, the District of Columbia and outlying jurisdictions; $5,970 for Alaska; and $5,490 for Hawaii.

The term "low-income individual" means an individual whose family's taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150% of the poverty level amount.
Family Educational Background Prospective students must be a first generation college going student. UB defines a first generation college going student, as any student who lives with parent(s) who does not have a degree from a 4-year college/university.
