Are you interested in student outreach and working with high school students from local and surrounding communities? Do you want to spend your summer making real and meaningful impacts in the lives of high school students who are trying to be the first in the their families to go to college? Are you interested in the field of education and looking for some real and practical experience working with students?
If your answer is YES! to any of these questions then we may

have the perfect experience for you this summer!

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound program serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from four-year colleges and universities.


  • Must be a current UCI undergraduate student

  • Must be at least Sophomore standing

  • Minimum cumulative 3.000 GPA

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must have access to a car and be able to drive to Anaheim

  1. Selected RTA MUST be available to attend the mandatory training sessions during Week 5 through 9 of Spring Quarter.

  2. Selected RTAs will NOT be able to take classes during Summer Session 1.

The UB summer program is a six-week programthat consists of three components:

1. Commuter Weeks

8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Tiger Woods Learning Center
Anaheim, CA

2. Residential Week
7/13/2014 - 7/19/2014
Staff live in the dorms and stay on campus with the students during the entire residential program.

3. College Visits
7/21/2014 - 7/25/2014
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Travel with students to visit college campus around southern California.

RTA Summer Stipend: $2,500

  • 6 - 8 hours per week

  • Tutoring sessions: Monday - Saturday

  • Afternoon Session:
    3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

  • Evening Session:
    5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

  • Starting rate: $10.00/hr
