Prospective Students
The Upward Bound program at UC Irvine is proud to serve the students of Anaheim by helping them achieve their goals of going to college. All interested students must complete and turn in an application during the recruitment window. Please refer to the information below to determine eligibility.

Upward Bound Eligibility Requirement
Eligibility Requirements
  1. Student must be a current 8th, 9th, or 10th grader who is attending either Anaheim, Katella, or Loara High School in the Anaheim Union School District.

  2. Student must be a U.S. citizen or a Permanent Resident.

  3. Student must have a minimum 2.00 overall GPA and be recommended by a teacher or counselor.

  4. Student must be planning to attend college after graduating form high school.
Additional Requirements Prospective students must also meet at least one of the following requirements:
Family Income Eligibility To be financially eligible, prospective students must meet the federal family income guideline established by the U.S. Department of Education (federal family income guideline are subject to change).

For family units with more than 8 members, add the following amount for each additional family member: $4,770 for the 48 contiguous states, the District of Columbia and outlying jurisdictions; $5,970 for Alaska; and $5,490 for Hawaii.

The term "low-income individual" means an individual whose family's taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150% of the poverty level amount.
Family Educational Background Upward Bound defines a first generation college going student, as any student who lives with parent(s) who does not have a degree from a 4-year college/university.
