DESCRIPTION:
The goal of CRLP Results for English Learners is to help teachers make sound instructional decisions about students who are not proficient on benchmark assessments of grade-level content standards, with a particular focus on literacy development for English Learners. Expertise in the language needs of English learners and an understanding of the language demands posed by grade level content standards are essential for effective instruction of English Learners. CRLP Results for English Learners (2008) includes assessments that focus on academic English language development and targeted resources for data-driven instruction. CRLP Results Institutes focus on assessment, teamwork, data analysis, and research-based instruction to ensure the success of English Learners.
OUTCOMES:
- Acquire instructional strategies designed to help all students gain mastery of the California academic content standards
- Become familiar with current and confirmed research related to the effective literacy instruction of English Learners
- Learn an approach for designing both content and language instructional objectives to provide access and ensure success in SBE- adopted reading programs and other content areas
- Increase knowledge of the competencies and instructional needs of students in each of the five levels of English proficiency as measured by the CELDT
- Learn how to analyze oral and written language data to improve instruction and student performance across all content areas
- Learn how to structure multiple opportunities for both oral and written student language practice
- Assessment and instruction which corresponds to the five areas in Shefelbine's framework for literacy
