October 4, 2007
Dear AISP Students and Parents:
Welcome to the beginning of the 2007-2008 school
year. For most of you students, the school year
has been in progress for a few weeks. At UCI,
the first full week of classes began last Monday,
October 1. This date also coincided with my first
day back from Maternity Leave. Our beautiful baby
daughter was born on August 9 and we have spent
the last two months adjusting to life as parents.
As part of the 2007 American Indian Summer Program
cohort, you are automatically part of our Mentorship
Program. It is not mandatory but we would love
for you to be a part of it.

You can attend one event, all the events, or anything
in between. However, in order to be considered
an “active” participant (and claim
it on college/scholarship applications, etc.),
you must participate in the following: at least
three activities throughout the year, and the
two grade reviews by phone. For those of you not
in the immediate area (i.e. San Diego, Arizona,
and Washington State), you are not obligated to
attend three events during the year to be included
as a participant, but we will still be requiring
the grade checks by phone or email, as well as
following up on your attendance at college events
in your area, if any.
Enclosed in this packet is a sheet with short
descriptions of each of the events as well as
an interest form. Please return the form by Monday,
November 5th.
Sincerely,
Yolanda Leon Polequaptewa
